Due to being near a great lake, the city of Chicago generates a lot of lake effect precipitation. This clash in the two air systems generate very windy conditions in the area, giving Chicago its nickname of the Windy City. This wind can trap the pollution inside the city because of the sky scrapers. This is what occurs and then contributes to the city's smog problem.
